Qiao Wang is a Chinese painter who lives and works in Canada. After receiving a diploma in Visual and Digital Arts from Humber College, Qiao earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from OCAD University. Following graduation, Qiao moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where a new chapter of artistic exploration began. While working as a graphic designer, Qiao created posters and websites that expanded their understanding of visual communication. The landscape, culture, and pace of life in Nova Scotia have since influenced Qiao’s artistic style and reshaped their perspective on art.
Art has always played a significant role in Qiao’s life. The immersive visual effects of cinema inspire repeated viewings, while compelling character designs in video games encourage a closer appreciation of detail, atmosphere, and storytelling. Advertisements encountered in shopping malls and on city streets reveal the persuasive power of images, and visiting art galleries remains an important part of Qiao’s life. These everyday visual experiences continually stimulate Qiao’s imagination and serve as reminders of the beauty that exists within ordinary life.
Although art is sometimes considered unnecessary in everyday life, Qiao believes that it offers a form of emotional relief—a kind of analgesic for the pain and pressure of the real world. Art brings warmth and color to a world that can often feel pale and cold. Without illustration, film, games, animation, and other forms of visual expression, life would be far more monotonous and emotionally distant.
Behind every artwork is an artist who may experience hardship, criticism, and uncertainty, yet continues to create and contribute color to the world. For Qiao, the existence of every artist is a celebration of life.
